Adult Awards 2024
The Awards Committee of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Calgary requests nomination of candidates for the association’s annual awards in the categories listed below.

CATEGORY A1 – HUMANITARIAN AWARD
This award is given to a Non-Nigerian who has bestowed a great deal of kindness to a Nigerian(s) and shows a keen interest in the affairs of the Association)
CATEGORY A2 – DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN AWARD
Given to a Nigerian who has distinguished himself or herself in his/her profession. Who, through his/her professional/occupational endeavors, has made unique contributions to the advancement of the human race.
If nominating candidates for the Distinguished Citizen Award, please submit a Curriculum Vita for your nominee, indicating among other information:
i. What the nominee has done within the profession to set him/her apart from his/her peers, and,
ii. The contributions that the nominee has made to benefit the human race through the profession or occupation.
Examples of contributions:
A nominee in the medical profession who has developed a new procedure for diagnosing and/or treating a disease, or has participated in the projects of reputable charity organizations e.g., Doctors without Borders, etc.
• An accountant/engineer/architect/planner who has used his/her professional expertise to benefit the less fortunate members of the society;
• A lawyer who has used his/her legal expertise, ‘pro bono’, to benefit those who could not afford legal representation, or
• A carpenter/building professional who uses his/her expertise to benefit society or has participated in the projects of reputable charity organizations such as, Habitat for Humanity, etc.
CATEGORY A3 – ADULT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Given to a member who has worked hard for the Association over the years. Serving executives are exempt from this award. Nominations to be made by members from which a maximum of 5 names will be selected by the executive committee and submitted to the Awards committee to choose a maximum of 3 names for the award
CATEGORY A4 – HONORARY MEMBERSHIP AWARD
The Honorary Membership Award is given to a Non-Nigerian who has shown a great interest in the affairs of the Association.
CATEGORY B – CYPRIAN EKWULUGO’S AWARD FOR VOLUNTEERISM
Given to a Nigerian-Canadian young adult who exhibits good leadership qualities and a spirit of volunteerism in the Nigerian community through NCAC and its affiliates. The nominee must have volunteered in at least 2 community events in the past 12 months prior to being nominated; however, the decision on adequacy of contributions is based on an assessment of the cumulative volunteer contributions since the last time the candidate won the last Young Adult Award or in the past four years. No candidate will be awarded the Young Adult Award more than once in a three year span.
To be eligible to nominate and be nominated:
You must be a member in good standing and annual due paid by June 30th of that particular year
You must have attended at least four (4) general meetings of the NCAC in the previous 12 months
You must have volunteered for at least one activity of the association in the past 12 calendar months
You must satisfy other conditions stipulated in the Bylaws of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Calgary
The eligibility of each candidate (based on the conditions above) will be verified by the NCAC Executive prior to consideration for scholarship
